Bright Telecommunications, the Fibre to the Home project previously owned by Western Power , has finally shut down as of the 15th of December 2007. Sold to Silk Telecom in December 2006, Bright provided Telephone, Internet and Television services into Burswood, Como and South Perth. It was the first Fibre to the Home project in Australia but was by Western Power in 2005 after a new Managing Director took over the energy company.

According to their web site, the company said "this was a difficult decision, but a thorough review of [their] residential network revealed that current services will not be sustainable in the future. As our equipment is approaches the end of its technical life span, Bright will be unable to invest in the required upgrades to deliver the next generation of carrier grade telecommunication services that our customers expect and deserve."

Customers have been informed of the service closure via mail and are now being assisted in the migration to other service providers offering similar products.
