Back when he was just a Senator, President-elect Barack Obama co-sponsored a bill in parliament called "100Mbit Nation". It was calling for the establishment of "a national goal for the universal deployment of next-generation broadband networks... by 2015"

Now President-elect Barack Obama stated in his weekly radio and YouTube address that broadband and national Internet access would be part of what has been referred to by observers as the "new New Deal," Obama's plan to attack the economic crisis and growing unemployment through massive national infrastructure investment.

Obama said "It is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption."

Broadcasting and Cable recaps the speech.
